Overview of key facts and trends relating to energy in Scotland for Q1 2025
Renewable Electricity Pipeline
As of the end of March 2025, there were 951 renewable energy projects with an estimated capacity of 70.7 GW in the planning pipeline in Scotland. Of these there were:
- 295 electricity storage projects with an estimated capacity of 30.8 GW;
- 617 renewable electricity generation projects with an estimated capacity of 36.4 GW; and
- 39 other renewable energy technologies projects with an estimated capacity of 3.5 GW.
The technology with the most estimated pipeline capacity is battery storage (23.9 GW), followed by offshore wind generation (17.8 GW) and onshore wind generation (15.9 GW; Figure 3).

‘Other’ electricity generation technologies include: shoreline wave; small hydro; and tidal stream.
‘Other renewable energy’ technologies include: advanced conversion technologies; anaerobic digestion; biomass (dedicated); EfW incineration; Hydrogen; and landfill gas.
